For Families & Children

  • Audubon Bent of the River is located right here in Southbury. It is comprised of "660 acres of diverse ecosystems and habitats including unfragmented forest, grasslands, old meadows, vernal pools, and red maple swamps, 15 miles of hiking trails, and a variety of year round educational programs for children & adults." The Audubon is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk and is a picturesque tour of the wildlife and scenery that call Southbury home.
  • Quassy Amusement Park in Woodbury is a famous spot for families and children to have a blast! "Quassy offers a variety of exciting and fun-filled rides and attractions for the entire family...Quassy's rides, swimming and boating on beautiful Lake Quassapaug as well as "Saturation Station," - home of the new giant "Tunnel Twister" waterslides - make Quassy a high priority family destination for a day of affordable fun."
  • Woodbury Ski Area, also right next door in Woodbury, is a wonderful winter stop for snow tubing and lots of other fun winter activities. "Woodbury Ski Area is a unique year-round ski area offering skiing, snow tubing, snow boarding, cross country skiing and skateboarding. We are Located in the town of Woodbury, CT which is in the Southern Litchfield Hills of Connecticut- Closest Connecticut Ski area to New York City and largest snow tubing park close to Manhattan."
  • The Charles Ives Center in nearby Danbury offers hiking trails and picnic groves along with an open-air amphitheatre where you can enjoy outstanding concerts throughout the summer months.
  • The American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol displays more than 3,000 timepieces in an 1801 house; The Edward Ingraham Memorial wing traces Bristol's clockmaking history.
  • Timexpo Museum in closeby in Waterbury, and "It's about TIME for family fun!" With magnificent displays, history of Timex and the indursty, and even a "Time Tunnel" which leads to hands-on activities and lots more to make for a great getaway.
  • Mohawk Mountian in Cornwall is a great local mountain for the family that loves to ski. "Mohawk Mountain Ski Area, Connecticut's premier snow resort since 1947, offers skiing and boarding to all ages. Featuring  24 trails for skiing and snowboarding,  Mohawk uses state of the art snow making equipment, five chairlifts, two "wonder carpet" for beginners and amenities for all snow sport enthusiasts."

  • The Connecticut Wine Trail, starting just minutes from The Heritage, is a must for the wine afficionato in all of us. "Connecticut's 25 wineries produce a wide variety of wines ranging from dry, barrel fermented Chardonnays, Cabernet Francs, Dry Rieslings and Seyval Blanc. To fruitier sweeter whites and reds and late harvest Vidals and Vignoles. Some wineries produce sparkling wines, ciders and wines made from pears and apples."

  • Mohegan Sun Casino is just as close as Foxwoods and just as exciting! As the second largest casino in the world, Mohegan Sun is a must for anyone looking to have a great time. Native American decor abounds here and is directly influenced by the Mohegan Tribe's history and culture."
  • Chelsea Premium Outlets at Clinton Crossing is a sure-fire stop for great shopping and great savings.   • The XL Center in Hartford is home to countless events year long. "The XL Center is Connecticut's largest, in-door premier sports and entertainment facility. The arena is home to the Hartford Wolf Pack; AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, the Big East Conference Women's Basketball Championship until 2009, and the home away from home for the University of Connecticut Men's and Women's basketball programs. In addition to the resident teams, the Hartford Civic Center is host to concerts, family show, ice skating spectaculars, consumer events and trade shows throughout the year.
